Industrial or consumer Grade Computer – what sets them apart?

Several key difference are overlooked when consumer or commercial grade hardware is used in industrial applications and environments, decision are sometimes made with only factoring the initial capital outlay and not the long cost implication of maintaining and supporting the equipment.

Typically a decision to use an industrial grade computer takes into consideration some or several of the following factors:

  • Requires 24/7 unmanned operation

  • Installed in remote locations

  • Operate in non-air conditioned environments

Industrial computer are designed to work in harsher and demanding environments compared to commercial or consumer grade computers because of the following reasons:
